Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has been facing a rough initiation into the WNBA during her first year. In a recent game against the Chicago Sky, she was sent to the ground after a hard foul from guard Chennedy Carter. The incident sparked a flurry of reactions online, but it also raised an important question: Where were Clark’s teammates when she needed them?
Former NBA player Matt Barnes didn’t hold back in expressing his frustration. He commented on a Bleacher Report post about the Caitlin Clark-Chennedy Carter incident, saying, “All this is gonna happen this season. She’s gonna be mentally & physically tested. Cheap shots, elbows, hard screens.”
Matt Barnes Puts The Blame on Caitlin Clark’s Teammates
Barnes, known for his physical play during his NBA career, emphasized that such tactics are part of the game. However, he wondered why none of Clark’s teammates stepped up to defend her on the court.
“Caitlin Clark says she got cheap shotted against the Sky. I mean, throughout the season, she’s getting beat up… My issue and my question is, Where the f*ck are her teammates at?” Barnes said.

Barnes knows the importance of teammates standing up for each other. During his playing days, he was an enforcer who protected star players like Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, and Blake Griffin. He recognizes that the Fever (and the WNBA as a whole) cannot afford to see Clark injured due to such aggressive plays.
In the Fever-Sky game where the incident occurred, Clark and Indiana managed to secure a thrilling 71-70 victory, improving their record to 2-8 on the season. However, the bigger issue remains: Will Clark’s teammates step up and protect her moving forward? As the WNBA continues to grow, solidarity among teammates becomes crucial, especially when star players are targeted.
