LeBron had almost changed his jersey number in 2019 over the arrival of Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans. No.23 was the only number Davis had on his back while playing for college as well as in the NBA.

LeBron James will change his Lakers jersey number to No. 6 next season after donning the number in his new movie “Space Jam: A New Legacy.” reported The Athletic

However, LeBron stuck with No.23 while Davis was assigned No.3. Even this time around, LeBron’s jersey number change is not revolved around Anthony Davis, who will stick with his current jersey number.

The reason behind the change in jersey is said to be due to the upcoming movie that the Lakers ace stars in. He is seen wearing the No.6 jersey in the movie and hence, will change it officially with his franchise as well, once the movie releases.

LeBron won back-to-back titles while wearing No.6

Following his highly controversial move to Miami Heat in 2010, LeBron wore the No.6 jersey. During the four-year stint with the Heat, he won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013.

After his return to Cleveland Cavaliers, he switched back to No.23 and continued with it even with his subsequent move to the Lakers.

The 36-year-old will play the 19th season of his career and is expected to not represent Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics.

Los Angeles Lakers ended their season in disappointment and could not pose a charge to defend their championship following a 4-2 series defeat against the Phoenix Suns in the first round of playoffs.

The franchise were affected by the injury to Anthony Davis. While a not-fully fit LeBron James tried to keep them afloat, the support from the rest of his teammates were far from enough, leading to their exit.

The veteran will hope that the No.6 brings him success with the Lakers, just like he had with the Heat.
