The saga of former WWE Universal Championship Kevin Owens and the pirate ship in the set of WrestleMania continues.

WRESTLEMANIA 37 HAD A PIRATE THEME

WrestleMania 36 featured a pirate themed set, including an imitation of a pirate ship as the centerpiece of the grand decoration. However, after WrestleMania 36 was nearly suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic and then relocated and redesigned as a two-night show at the WWE Performance Center, the set decorations were largely reduced due to the Performance Center being an indoor venue instead of being a stadium like the original venue of the event: the Raymond James Stadium at Tampa, Florida.

WrestleMania 37, originally planned to take place at California, also faced the pangs of the pandemic and was subsequently shifted to the Raymond James Stadium. The WrestleMania Goes Hollywood theme was abolished and much of the pirate themed set design was returned for the event. The WrestleMania 37 set, of course, featured the pirate ship as its grand attraction.

OWENS COULD NOT EXECUTE HIS GRAND PLAN

At WrestleMania 36, Kevin Owens announced that regardless of whatever match he was a part of in the mega event, he was going to pull of a trick out of the bags of his old enemy Shane McMahon and jump off from the pirate ship. However, due to the outbreak of the pandemic and shift of venues, his grand plan was thwarted.

Later, with the shift of the 37th iteration of the event to Raymond James Stadium and the return of an even larger pirate set design, WWE’s post-Austin resident giver of stunners decided to return to his plans of jumping from the ship.

The match between Kevin Owens and his frenemy Sami Zayn was decent, but it conspicuously missed any high-risk action, let alone a jump from the heights of the ship. Owens defeated Zayn and stunned Logan Paul, but did not manage to execute his grand plan.

Sean Ross Sapp, via Fightful Select, provides some apparent information. According to his claims, “There were discussions between talent and creative throughout the week, but the match not being no-DQ proved a big hurdle. The ship on the set was also a lot larger than many expected, but the weather as the final nail in the coffin.”
