It’s important to get yourself out of the chaos and madness: Katie Taylor

“KT” is currently preparing for her jump up to light welterweight to take on Chantelle Cameron, who is currently undisputed at the division. The fight will take place at the 3Arena in Dublin on 20th May, organized by Matchroom Boxing and will be televised on DAZN.

Taylor is just one win away from becoming undisputed in two different weight classes, and is undergoing training in Connecticut. Given her first pro bout on her home soil, there have been reports that ticket sales have skyrocketed, as well as hotel prices in the Irish capital.

However, the boxer has locked herself away from all that, which includes any requests from friends or family, as she believes its the optimal way for her to get the best out of training.

“I definitely think it’s important to get yourself out of the chaos and madness of so many people wanting to drag you everywhere back home,” Taylor said in a recent interview with Boxing Scene. “The peace and quiet out here is amazing and it’s a great environment for training and it’s one of the reasons I’ve loved this place so much.”

“There is nothing to do over here other than train, it’s in the middle of nowhere. It’s a superb place to focus on the actual fight and to get a bit of headspace. Nowadays this place feels like my home away from home.”

“I miss my family from time to time but it’s very easy to keep in touch nowadays. But this is a great place and I love it over here”, the Irishwoman went on, “I think it’s the perfect spot for me, it suits my personality – the tranquility over here. You very rarely see even a car driving by, that’s how quiet it is. There is some life outside; restaurants, cafes and cinemas. There is stuff to do and I have a great community of people here so I have a great life outside the gym too.”
