Isaac Cruz Sr, father and coach of Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, has confirmed that there are talks for a rematch with Gervonta Davis, and if it comes to fruition, he expects that the fight will take place this year only.
Gervonta Davis vs. Isaac Cruz 2: Cruz Sr. Believes The Fight May Happen This Year
It has been almost two years since the fight between Davis and Cruz, in which the former won by unanimous decision, and although the Mexican has insisted on a rematch, it ultimately did not materialize. However, the rumors are getting stronger about a rematch, and the two parties are resolving negotiations so that the duo can lock horns again.
“There is still nothing concrete and if there was something maybe in December or January” it would be the return of Pitbull Cruz,” Cruz Sr. said during a recent interview. “But we are there with the rematch, there is nothing concrete, it could be December or January for the rematch or some other fight”.
“There are talks for the rematch, you already know that it is not a one-day talk and it has already been settled, if it were like that how good it is, but it is one and another talk to reach an agreement,” he added. “There are talks there for the rematch, I think it would not be in December because of the television station, there are details right now (Showtime’s departure from boxing), and we are still in talks.”
“Now we are 50 and 50, there is no side that leans 80%,” Cruz Sr. commented regarding the rematch talks. “We are at 50% of the talks, otherwise we will see what other options they could give us tomorrow.”
“I believe that many things will begin tomorrow, whether he fights this year or until January or if there is another talk again,” Cruz Sr concluded.
