“He was almost dead”- Max Verstappen had a near-miss during Canada

In an unexpected twist at the Canadian Grand Prix, three-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen found himself facing an unusual obstacle: a groundhog. The incident occurred during the race, adding an element of surprise to an already intense competition.

While leading the pack on lap 32, Verstappen spotted what he initially thought was debris on the circuit. However, as he got closer, he realized it was a groundhog. The small animal had ventured onto the track, creating a potentially dangerous situation for both Verstappen and the groundhog.

Verstappen’s reflexes kicked in, and he swerved to avoid the animal. “He was almost dead,” Verstappen later recounted. “I thought it was debris initially, but then I was like, oh my god, it’s an animal. I really had to slow down for it.”

Groundhogs have caused problems in Montreal before. Former F1 drivers Romain Grosjean and Nicholas Latifi also faced groundhog-related incidents in recent years. Verstappen’s near-miss highlights the unpredictable nature of motorsports and the need for drivers to stay alert at all times.

Max Verstappen, the 26-year-old Dutch sensation, has etched his name in Formula 1 history with an astounding 50 race wins. Let’s delve into the statistics, memorable moments, and the sheer dominance that Verstappen has displayed on the track.

At Canda, despite the unexpected encounter, Verstappen managed to maintain his composure. His Red Bull Racing team remained calm, making the right calls during the race. Verstappen eventually seized the lead from Lando Norris under a safety car period on lap 25, securing his sixth win of the season and the 60th of his career.

Verstappen’s 50 victories account for an impressive 66.67% win rate in the last 75 F1 races.  His most recent triumph came at the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix, where he showcased his skill in adverse weather conditions.

Max Verstappen clinched some of these wins by a razor-thin margin, with the closest being just 0.179 seconds.  In contrast, he has also dominated races with a massive lead, winning by as much as 35.743 seconds.
