It appears that we are finally having some solid development towards seeing Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia share the squared circle.

Ryan Garcia shuts down Rolly Romero fight talks, only focusing on Haney

Have and Garcia have been in conversation for quite some time now- both are not at light welterweight, both are coming off victories, and both have expressed their keenness to square off against one another. The two have made multiple posts on social media, suggesting that the two parties are in conversations and a fight is in the making.

However, Haney was not Garcia’s first call out after his win over Oscar Duarte back on 2nd December. In fact, the former interim WBC lightweight champ had sent out a challenge to Rolando “Rolly” Romero.

However, gradually “KingRy” shifted his focus on the former undisputed 135-pound champ in Haney, who is the current WBC champ at 140. And while the Romero angle was yet to be closed, Garcia himself took to X on Thursday to make things clear.

“I’m sorry Rollies – you and your team work way too slowly and you were way too indecisive. I didn’t know if you wanted to box or vacation. Devin Haney and I are in negotiations – respect that. I’m not entertaining anything,” Garcia wrote.

Haney was quick to notice Garcia’s post, and responded, “See you soon, pal.”

A couple days back, Oscar De La Hoya showed his interest in making Haney vs. Garcia as well, as he posted on X that he wants to break the PPV records with the mega fight.

“Happy holidays to the best 140 pounder in the world. @Realdevinhaney Let’s break PPV records. @RyanGarcia,” De La Hoya had written.

While they are yet to face each other in the professional setting, Haney and Garcia have had a comprehensive rivalry during their amateur careers, and have a 3-3 head-to-head record.

Haney is closing the year with two victories, the first one was a unanimous decision win against Vasiliy Lomachenko in May, followed by another UD over Regis Prograis in his 140-pound debut on 9th December.

Garcia, meanwhile, suffered his first professional defeat against Gervonta Davis in April, before making a victorious comeback against Duarte on 2nd December, securing an 8th round KO.
