Bob Arum has potentially dropped a huge bombshell regarding Devin Haney vs. Vasyl Lomachenko, as the Top Rank CEO suggests that the heavily anticipated undisputed lightweight clash is being targeted for May, with an official announcement coming shortly.
During an interview with ID Boxing, Arum explained how he is setting up the next fight in ascending career of Haney, the reigning undisputed lightweight champ, and in arguably his toughest outing in the squared circle yet, the American’s rival will be Lomachenko, who is a former unified champion at 135 himself.
“We’re looking at the end of May,” said Arum in the interview. “We are determining which is the best place to carry it out. We will have an announcement, hopefully, within the next week.”
In addition to the already exciting Haney vs. Lomachenko, the revered promoter introduced former two division chaampion Shakur Stevenson into the dispute.
“Shakur will fight in an elimination match. If Haney wins, it’s likely he’ll move up in weight to junior welterweight. If Lomachenko wins, he’ll stay at lightweight, and it’ll be a great fight. Lomachenko against Shakur Stevenson,” Arum added.
