The much-anticipated fight between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia has been in conversation for quite some time, and the stage is now set for the two to meet at a 136-pound catchweight in April 2023 in Las Vegas.
Signed…sealed delivered…done deal: Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia confirm catchweight fight
This comes after weeks of negotiations between Showtime Boxing and DAZN, which are the television networks that broadcast both boxers. Because they work in a different way, they were slow to agree because Showtime wanted to have the rights to the pay-per-view, which will now be done on a shared basis.
The fight was revealed to the masses by both Davis and Garcia. Prior to this clash in April 2023, Gervonta is scheduled to return on January 7th, with an opponent to be defined, in Washington. His only outing in 2022 came against Rolly Romero, whom he defeated by sixth-round knockout in May.
“I’ll be back in the ring Jan 7,” ‘Tank’ wrote on his Twitter, “stay tuned for more details! After that it’s me and Ryan signed sealed delivered…done deal!”

Garcia, meanwhile, had two fights that he won. The first was against Emmanuel Tagoe and the other was against Javier Fortuna. The former he won by unanimous decision, while the latter he defeated by knockout.
The former interim WBC lightweight champ made his confirmation public via a series of tweets as well.
“I’m so pumped this fight is finally in place — I want it more than anything right now. I’ve put in the work, I’m at the prime of my career, and I know I’m going to be the biggest boxer in the world. That legacy starts today,” wrote Garcia.

Boxing NEEDS this fight right now,” Garcia further noted, “It’s time for us to get back to what made this sport so great for the fans: Glamorous fights in places like Las Vegas, grudge match storylines, and most importantly — the best fighting the best.”
