Floyd Mayweather Jr has reportedly banned Gervonta Davis from using his gym in preparation for his fight against Ryan Garcia, as “Tank” himself revealed in a tweet that he later deleted.
In a recent interview with Boxing Scene, Davis said that he would do his preparation for the fight with Ryan Garcia at Mayweather’s gym in Las Vegas. However, his deleted tweet would point out that “Money” no longer wants that to happen.
“What? That Floyd’s petty ass said I couldn’t use his gym anymore. I don’t give a f**k!” Gervonta wrote in an exchange with Garcia on Twitter before deleting his response.
Davis used to be a part of the Mayweather Promotions roster, where Floyd himself served as his mentor and advisor. In preparation for him, Davis used to work out at Floyd’s gym in Las Vegas.
However, after the fight against Rolly Romero in May 2022, Davis ended his relationship with Mayweather Promotions. On that occasion, both Gervonta and Floyd assured that they ended the relationship on good terms, although there have been some brief abrasion.
Despite ending things up with Mayweather Promotions, Gervonta continued working with the PBC promoter, and under the tutelage of Al Haymon and Leonard Ellerbe- two who are very close to Mayweather. So while there was no more relation with Mayweather Promotions, Davis remained under the general circle of Floyd and his associates.
In the only fight that Davis has done so far without a contract with Mayweather Promotions, he faced Héctor Luis García. On that occasion, Davis no longer used Mayweather’s gym and trained in Miami.
Taking on the other Garcia this time, as Boxing Scene had reported, Davis was contemplating returning to Mayweather’s gym in Las Vegas, but apparently, Floyd no longer wants anything to do with it.
