“Basically, if F1 is going to be held in Thailand, we want it to be held on the roads – if possible, on Ratchadamnoen around Rattanakosin Island,” government spokesperson Chai Watcharong told Thansettakij.
“Incheon is the best place in South Korea to host Formula 1,” Incheon’s mayor Yoo Jeong-bok said, when speaking to South Korean media outlet Yonhap News.”
South Korea hosted Formula 1 races earlier
South Korea has a history with Formula 1, having hosted races from 2010 to 2013 at the Korea International Circuit. However, the Grand Prix was abandoned in 2015 due to financial reasons and contractual issues.
Now, there’s renewed interest in reinstating the South Korean Grand Prix. Incheon, known for its vibrant culture and modern infrastructure, is touted as the best place to host Formula 1 in the country. Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok expressed this sentiment, emphasizing the city’s suitability for the event.
The challenges faced during the previous South Korea GP—geographical location, lack of accommodation, and audience turnout—will need to be addressed for a successful comeback.
