East vs West, one of the biggest and most premium arm wrestling competition series in the world is all set to get its fifth edition East vs West 5 returning to Istanbul, Turkey this 19th November, featuring once more a star-studded fight card starring the best of the best from the eastern and western arm wrestling scenes.
Ryan Bowen vs Zurab Tabveridze
The opening match of the night took place between Ryan Bowen and Zurab Tabveridze. The first round saw the straps coming on before Zurab took the first point of the match. A similar scenario in the second round had Zurab doubling his lead. The Georgian continued his domination into round three to secure a clean 3-0 victory.
Georgi Dzeranov vs Sergey Kalinichenko
Kazakhstani puller Georgi Dzeranov took on Sergey Kalinichenko of Ukraine in the next clash. Kalinichenko took the lead with a brutal pull in the first round, before repeating another pin on Dzeranov to make it 2-0. Dzeranov committed a foul in the third but showed brilliant contain against Kalinichenko this time and made his mark on the scoreboard, and evened the odds with the straps on in the fourth. The final round saw another foul from Dzeranov, but took the final round as well as the match by a 3-2 margin.
Justin Bishop vs Mindaugas Tarasaltis
Justin Bishop and Mindaugas Tarasaltis were up next on the table. The straps were on right at start, before Bishop opened up the scoreline. However, the American blew his lead after two back to back elbow fouls in the second, but was able to pin Tarasaltis in the third to make it 2-1. Unfortunately, Bishop suffered two consecutive fouls once again in the fourth as Tarasaltis was able to catch up. In the decider, straps came on, and the Lithuanian puller made his move to secure a 3-2 win.
Adam Wawrzynski vs Bozhidar Simeonov
The next match featured Adam Wawrzynski against Bozhidar Simenonov. Wawrzynski took the lead in the first, before extending his lead to 2-0 in the second. Simenonov did make his best efforts in the third, but his resistance was just not able to counter the brute strength from Wawrzynski, who secured a clean 3-0 victory.
Oleg Petrenko vs Zurab Tavberidze
Zurab Tavberidze returned for the second time in the night, this time taking on Oleg Petrenko in a left arm clash. While an even contest was expected, it was Petrenko who showed outright domination throughout the match, taking the first, second and third rounds, overpowering Tavberidze into a 3-0 finish.
Daniel Procopciuc vs Davit Samushia
The following clash took place between Daniel Procopciuc vs Davit Samushia. The first round saw the straps coming on, as an aggressive pin from Procopciuc earned him the first round. Samushia fought back in the second in a lengthy contest to level the scores. The third round saw an elbow foul from both Samushia and Procopciuc, but a second foul from the latter earned Samushia the lead. The Georgian continued to outperform Procopciuc in the third, before closing out with a 3-1 victory.
Wagner Bortolato vs Georgi Dzeranov
Dzeranov had his second match of the night, locking the left against Wagner Bortolato. The first round had Dzeranov in the lead, but an energetic Bortolato powered into the match with a huge press to make it 1-1 after the second. The Brazilian veteran, however, entered third with back to back fouls, as the scores went 2-1 for Dzeranov. However, Bortolato once again pinned his opponent back into level scores. The final round saw Bortolato opening with a foul, followed by a superb contain between the two before Dzeranov pinned to pick up his second win of the night.
Paul Linn vs Irakli Gamtenadze
US puller Paul Linn took on East vs West debutant Irakli Gamtenadze in the next clash of the night. Linn embarked on the lead at first wit, and once again dominated into a 2-0 lead as Gamtenadze looked outpowered on the table. Despite a foul in the third, Linn continued his authority, finishing the contest to an easy 3-0 win.
John Brzenk vs Oleg Petrenko
The legendary John Brzenk was up next, taking on Petrenko in the latter’s second outing of the night in a right arm super match. Straps were on in the first, with a foul from Petrenko. Brzenk became seemingly upset with the grip, before Petrenko made the first pin of the match. However, the scores were reverted back to 0-0, before the two went at it with the straps once again. A second foul from Petrenko had Brzenk on the lead.
The second round had Petrenko making a foul after a long contain, a restart with the straps on showed the immense power from Brzenk as he slaughtered Petrenko’s efforts to make the second pin. The third round had no different of a scenario, as Brzenk continued to overpower Petrenko, shutting him out to a 3-0 victory.
Revaz Lutidze vs Artyom Morozov
Georgia’s Revaz Lutidze and Kazakhstan’s Artyom Morozov were up next on the table. With the straps on at first, the two pullers showed remarkable contain, before Morozov scored the first pin of the match. However, the call was later changed by the refs, and two back to back fouls from Morovoz ultimately put Lutidze on the 1-0 lead. The Kazakh puller bounced back in the second, equalling the scores with a superb top roll.
The third round had Lutidze committing a foul at the start, and Morovoz didn’t waste any time to take the lead. As pressure started to build on Lutidze, Morovoz made another flash pin in the fourth to take home a 3-1 win.
Dave Chaffee vs Ermes Gasparini
Up next featured Dave Chaffee against Ermes Gasparini. A slow first round had the straps on before the two engaged in a contest that ended with an elbow foul from Gasparini. However, it was the Italian who took the first round after another lengthy contest between the two. Another patient buildup to the straps in the second round, and the Italian continued into a 2-0 advantage over his American counterpart.
Gasparini was very close to taking home the win in the early third, before an elbow foul worked against him. Nonetheless, the flow of the match didn’t change, and the win indeed went to Gasparini, who sealed a 3-0 win over Chaffee.
Cobra Rhodes vs Haydar Gildil
The next match of the night saw Cobra Rhodes and Haydar Gildil locking arms. Both started off with a foul each before the straps were on and Gildil utilized side pressure to take the lead. The veteran Turkish puller had another dominating pin to make it 2-0. Gildil continued to make easy work of Rhodes, scoring another round to finish off a 3-0 victory.
Matt Mask vs Sandris Sedis
Canada’s Matt Mask locked arms against Sandris Sedis of Latvia in the next super match. The first round had the straps on, before a flash pin from Sedis put him on the lead. The second round saw good efforts from Mask into getting on the scoring, but the Latvian continued his domination and increased his lead to 2-0. The third round saw Sedis on a quick pin, sealing a win by 3-0 margin.
Ermes Gasparini vs Artyom Morozov
Gasparini and Morozov took on each other for their second appearance of the night in a left arm super match. The highly anticipated match between two of the best performers of the event started off with Morozov pressing into the first pin. The straps were constant, and Morozov took his time to show his dominance over the Italian opponent to make the scoreline 2-0. The finish was easy for the Kazakh, brutalizing into another pin over Gasparini to seal the deal 3-0.
Devon Larratt vs Evgeny Prudnyk
The main event of the night featured the iconic Devon Larratt, up against Evgeny Prudnyk for the world heavyweight championship. Following a slip from the referee’s grip, the straps came on and after a long on-and-off engagement between the two athletes, a pin from Larratt opened up the scoring of the match. The second round saw Prudnyk committing an elbow foul during the contain before Larratt clinched another pin over the Ukrainian.
The third round, with the straps on as usual, had another contain that ended with an elbow foul from Prudnyk. As the pulling resumed, Prudnyk attempted King’s move in countering Larratt’s hook, but the Canadian’s sheer power in the final pin overpowered Prudnyk, as Larratt won the main event 3-0.
