Dmitry Bivol does not plan to wait for Canelo Alvarez to make a decision by 2023 and hopes to fight for a new world championship as soon as possible.

I want to fight for the belts, against whoever has one: Dmitry Bivol

Bivol faced Canelo in May of this year and defeated the Mexican by triple unanimous decision 115-113 on the cards at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. This was only the second loss of Canelo’s professional career. In addition, the Mexican failed in his attempt to be crowned champion at 175 pounds again.

After the fight, Canelo did make positive conversations about wanting a rematch against the Russian, but in the end, he closed the trilogy against Gennadiy Golovkin. Against GGG  he successfully defended his 168-pound championships by unanimous decision.

“I don’t want to depend on Canelo’s decision,” Bivol replied in an interview with the YouTube channel iFL TV. “If I don’t fight for the belts, I don’t want to fight. I plan to be patient. ”

For his part, Bivol returned for a new WBA championship defense in November and easily defeated Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez by unanimous decision by scorecards of 117-111, 117-111 and 118-110 in Abu Dhabi.

Canelo is currently undergoing rehabilitation after undergoing wrist surgery, so he is out of activity until at least May 2023. According to different reports, the British John Ryder is among the favorites for his return before thinking about the rematch with Bivol in a category to be defined.

“I want to fight for the belts, against whoever has one,” Bivol went on, “I don’t think of another rival that doesn’t have championships.”

Previously, Bivol commented that his dream was to unify the category with Artur Beterbiev. However, the reigning IBF, WBO, and WBC champion has a fight against Anthony Yarde pending in late January. After this, another problem for Bivol is the order of the WBC, which has already said that the winner of the match must fight Callum Smith.

“It’s a good fight between Beterbiev and Yarde,” Bivol added, “Yarde looks strong, but the experience is on Beterbiev ‘s side and he has more skills for me.”
