Formula 1 fans are buzzing with anticipation as the Miami Grand Prix approaches. However, one driver who won’t be celebrating is Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian racing sensation has been handed a three-place grid penalty for the upcoming Miami weekend due to a safety car infringement during the Chinese Grand Prix.
Daniel Ricciardo: The Shanghai result didn’t reflect it, but we made progress in China; the performance of the car was strong and I’m confident that will continue. Obviously, it'll be a challenge this weekend given the three-place grid penalty, but we'll be pushing for points. pic.twitter.com/nelzFbB7F8

Daniel Ricciardo’s incident that awarded a penalty
During the Chinese Grand Prix, Ricciardo found himself behind the wheel of his Aston Martin, battling it out on the Shanghai International Circuit. However, a critical moment occurred when he overtook the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg while the race was under Safety Car conditions. This move caught the attention of the stewards, who investigated the incident.
Ricciardo admitted to deliberately overtaking Hulkenberg, citing that the Haas driver had done the same earlier in the race. However, the stewards were not swayed by this explanation. They deemed Ricciardo’s action unjustifiable and slapped him with a 10-second time penalty. Unfortunately for Ricciardo, he was forced to retire from the race due to damage inflicted by Lance Stroll’s collision, rendering the time penalty moot.
