Cole Bruce, a determined young racer, is navigating the challenging terrain of both education and racing. As he pursues a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics: Commercial/Corporate at Liberty University to become a certified flight instructor (CFI), he’s also gearing up for a full year of racing at Langley Speedway in 2024.

Although the summer promises a break for most college students, Bruce’s schedule intensifies. He’ll be attending Saturday classes from 6-10:30 a.m. at Liberty. Despite the three-hour drives from Liberty to Langley on race weekends, Bruce remains dedicated to both his studies and racing.

“Honestly, I’m just surrounding myself with good people,” Bruce said. “Right now at school, I’m with people who have the same major as me. We have study groups, which help a lot. Currently, I’m a 4.0 student [at Liberty], so being ahead of the ball game helps a lot.”

Cole Bruce and his upcoming plans

Bruce’s determination shines through as he balances the demands of education and racing. Despite limited funding, he’s keeping his racing plans focused on Langley Speedway for 2024.

His eyes are set on milestones, especially the crown jewel event at Langley: the Hampton Heat. Although Bruce has been pleased with his speed in previous Hampton Heat appearances, the results haven’t always reflected the strength of his cars. Tire management and throttle control are key areas he aims to master during endurance events like the Hampton Heat. By understanding how much to push and strategically positioning himself, he hopes for a strong finish this year.
