Chase Elliott Describes His Journey Joining Hendrick Motorsports at the Age of 15

Chase Elliott, often regarded as the Golden Boy of Hendrick Motorsports, is undeniably a valuable asset for Rick Hendrick and his team. Over the years, Elliott has consistently proven his worth as a skilled driver, rarely missing the playoffs for the team, except for last year.

However, the 2023 season wasn’t ideal for Chase Elliott. He missed 7 races and struggled to regain momentum, resulting in a disappointing season for the driver. Despite this setback, Elliott recently reflected on his journey, recalling how it all began at Hendrick Motorsports 13 years ago when he was just 15 years old.

In a conversation with Bob Pockrass, Chase Elliott reminisced about his initial meeting with Mr. Hendrick. Chase recalled how one afternoon after school, he and his father visited Hendrick Motorsports. Mr. Hendrick expressed his desire to talk and proceeded to show Chase around the facilities, including the cars and chassis shop.

They eventually made their way to Mr. Hendrick’s original building where his office was located, and they sat down and had a conversation. Chase appreciated how Mr. Hendrick took the time to speak with him and offer him an opportunity within the team.

Chase Elliott’s Journey with HMS: How It All Began?

At just 16 years old, Chase Elliott was already a star in the Pro Late Model Series. He signed a three-year development deal with Hendrick Motorsports,Prior to his Cup Series debut, Hendrick had faith in Elliott and entered him in the NASCAR Truck Series in 2013. Elliott didn’t disappoint, winning a race and securing top-five finishes in five out of nine starts. His performance earned him a full-time spot in the Xfinity Series for the following two seasons, where he clinched victory in four races. In 2014, Elliott secured the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship, showcasing his prowess on the track.

In 2016, Elliott stepped into the NASCAR Cup Series, taking over the iconic No. 24 Chevrolet previously driven by the legendary Jeff Gordon. His debut season was nothing short of remarkable, earning him the title of 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year.
