Charvarius Ward gave a sneak peek into the 49er’s locker room after their defeat in the Super Bowl.

The San Francisco 49ers faced a crushing overtime defeat at the hands of The Kansas City Chiefs at the 2024 Super Bowl on Sunday night at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The 49ers players were visibly heartbroken after their defeat in the biggest sporting event in the country. Most of the players avoided talking to the media after the game, and only a few of the players stood up for the task.

Veteran cornerback Charvarius Ward was one of the few players who spoke to the media in the locker room after the game

“Feels kind of like a funeral,” Charvarius Ward said. “The ultimate goal is always to win a Super Bowl. I feel like we were the best team in the league this season, but we weren’t. We were the second-best team. Shout out to Kansas City, they played a good game.” He added “It’s just hurt feelings. Everybody feels the same. Kind of sad. We wish we would have won.”

Along with Ward many of the 49ers players and fans believed their team to be the best in the league this season and to win the Super Bowl with relative ease but things didn’t turn out that way.

“Honestly, I thought we were going to win the game,” Charvarius Ward  on the Super Bowl

The 49ers were solid defensively in the first half as they allowed  Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to produce only three points in a closely contested first half but failed to continue with the same defensive solidity and rigidity in the second half of the LVIII Super Bowl.

“Honestly, I thought we were going to win the game,” Charvarius Ward said. “It’s a lot of money on the defensive side of the ball and a lot of talent. I thought we were going to get it done to be honest. We felt pretty confident.”

“That’s the way we wanted it, on our shoulders on the defensive side. They rose to the occasion and on defense, we just didn’t. They moved the ball a lot at the end of the fourth quarter those last two drives they had. They were balling and we weren’t.” Charvarius Ward added.

Although the 49ers lost in the final throughout the season they have played some excellent football and provided a lot of entertainment for the fans. It was anybody’s game in the final and the Kansa City Chiefs rose to the occasion and clinched the title but it is not the end of the world for the 49ers and their players will be looking to come back stronger next year and secure the title.
