Reports have surfaced that Garcia tested positive for the banned performance-enhancing substance Ostarine before his dominant victory over Devin Haney last month in New York.
However, it is still being determined if he took any banned substance by choice.

A Breath of Relief? Ryan Garcia Cleared for Nandrolone Metabolite

According to veteran boxing reporter Dan Rafael, Garcia has been cleared of a potential positive test for the 19-Norandrosterone metabolite, which is a byproduct of the banned substance nandrolone. This news comes as a relief for Garcia, who has maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal.

Golden Boy Promotions’ Stance

Despite the damning allegations, Golden Boy Promotions, Garcia’s management team, has publicly supported him. In a statement released on Thursday, they said, “Ryan has put out multiple statements denying knowingly using any banned substances — and we believe him.” The organization actively investigates how this finding came about and promises further action once the process concludes.

Ryan Garcia’s Victory Hangs in the Balance

Ryan Garcia’s victory over Devin Haney was nothing short of spectacular. He knocked Haney down three times and handed the WBC super lightweight champion his first loss. However, Garcia missed the weight limit, preventing him from claiming the title. Now, with the positive drug test looming, his victory could be overturned.

Haney’s Reaction: Clean Fighting Advocacy

Devin Haney, Garcia’s former amateur rival, didn’t hold back. He took to Instagram to express his disappointment: “We learned about this situation not too long ago, and it’s unfortunate Ryan cheated and disrespected both the fans and the sport of boxing by fighting dirty and breaking positive not once, but twice.” Haney has always advocated for clean fighting, and this incident hits close to home for him.

March 2, 2024: One high-profile bout between Jake Paul vs. Ryan Bourland took place in Puerto Rico. Well this is what the promoters are saying but it looks like the fans and the boxing community doesn’t hold the same opinion. And it looks like many fans are done with the Fad.

What is Influencer boxing?

In recent years, influencer boxing has taken the sports world by storm. Social media personalities, YouTubers, and internet celebrities have stepped into the ring, captivating audiences and blurring the lines between celebrity culture and professional sports.

What happened in the match?

The controversial YouTuber-turned-boxer, Jake Paul, has been on a mission to prove himself in the boxing world. With an 8-1 record (including five knockouts), Paul has faced opponents from various backgrounds, including fellow influencers and professional fighters.

Bourland, A journeyman with 19 professional fights under his belt, Bourland brought experience to the ring. At 35 years old, he was the most accomplished traditional boxer that Paul had encountered. However, for most boxing fans he’s just another name from the past.

The Hype

Paul, always one for spectacle, hyped up the fight as a stepping stone toward a world championship. He acknowledged Bourland’s credentials and expressed a desire to challenge himself. However, questions lingered about Bourland’s form. His last fight was in 2018, and this bout marked his return after a two-year hiatus.

The Fight

The Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan was the stage for this intriguing clash. As the event streamed live on DAZN, fans wondered if Bourland could pose a real threat to Paul’s ambitions. The opening moments saw Paul light on his feet, firing off jabs that split Bourland’s guard. The jabs opened up shots to Bourland’s ribs, leaving him chasing Paul for offense opportunities.

But the outcome was swift. In the first round, Paul’s relentless assault overwhelmed Bourland. The referee stepped in, declaring a technical knockout in favor of Jake Paul. The influencer had triumphed once again, leaving fans both impressed and skeptical.

Influencer Boxing’s Future:

With each influencer boxing match, the popularity dips. Paul’s victory against Bourland, looks glorious on paper but nobody is interested.
However, with more seasoned fighters stepping up to face social media stars it looks like the fad is not going anywhere weather you like it or not.

The Jake Paul Factor:

Jake Paul’s influence cannot be ignored. His brash persona and marketing savvy draw attention. Whether you love him or hate him, he’s a driving force behind influencer boxing. If Paul continues to win, he’ll remain a central figure in this phenomenon. But a significant loss could alter the landscape.

Conclusion

Jake Paul’s victory over Ryan Bourland raises questions about the future of influencer boxing. While some dismiss it as a passing fad, others see it as a gateway to broader boxing audiences. As long as influencers step into the ring and fans keep watching, this unique blend of entertainment and sport will persist. Whether it’s the end or just the beginning, only time—and the next bout—will tell.

Anthony Joshua redeemed his falling boxing career with three consecutive wins in 2023, potentially reclaiming his top-tier position. Nevertheless, he is still at a distance from the Heavyweight title picture. The only way to find his way back to that spot is by going against elite world champions. His promoter Eddie Hearn appears to be searching for the right suitable options.

In a chat with the IFL TV, the Matchroom kingpin said “so right now we have three fights that we’re in discussions for,” Hearn told iFL TV. “They’re all big and that doesn’t involve Deontay Wilder for March. Our aim, and we’ve expressed this, is to fight the winner of Fury-Usyk. That’s all we want to do. Obviously, there’s the [Filip] Hrgovic fight out there for the world heavyweight title. There’s a Francis Ngannou fight out there, which would be absolutely colossal. There are other heavyweights as well. The [Zhilei] Zhang fight possibly as well with Queensbur.”

Francis Ngannou could impress Eddie Hearn over his splendid performance over Tyson Fury. The UK promoter got honest about his thoughts on competitive crossovers, validating a potential fight over AJ and Ngannou.

How can Anthony Joshua become a 3-time world champion

Per the current scenario Joshua needs to fight the winner of Fury vs Usyk however he might need more wins to earn himself another world champion title. On his way to that destiny, a potential win over Francis Ngannou can be that ticket to success
Amidst all of these, former WBC champ Deontay Wilder is also interested to lock horns against AJ. Therefore, Joshua has Umpteel options available beforehand. All he has to do is retain himself on the winning track.

With Wilder losing and Fury/Usyk having a rematch clause, this was the obvious move. https://t.co/Zpb2rhKiJz

— Aaron Bronsteter (@aaronbronsteter) January 3, 2024

That said, both the Heavyweight champions – Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are locked in for an undisputed clash in February, leaving AJ out of sight. Meanwhile, the Heavyweight division can continue to offer lucrative opportunities for the Brit. Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is one such example. Despite an unsuccessful boxing debut in October against Tyson Fury, “The Predator” left the combat world impressed with his skills. Now Hearn since interested in putting his man “AJ” opposite Ngannou.

Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed super middleweight champion of the world, had a very anti-climactic conclusion to his much awaited comeback to light heavyweight, as his opponent Dmitry Bivol dominated the pound for pound king to a 12-round unanimous decision victory and retain his WBA title.

Being only his second professional career defeat, nine years after his first one against Floyd Mayweather, both Canelo and Bivol will be looking forward to an imminent rematch, talks about which has been gaining pace already. Not only Canelo will have the chance to avenge his defeat, but Bivol will have another chance to show that he is much more capable of a boxer and the victory last Saturday wasn’t any stroke of luck.

The T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada on 7th May saw Canelo returning to 175 two and a half years. The Mexican had made his light heavyweight debut against Sergey Kovalev in November 2019 and won the fight via knockout in the 11th round, winning the WBO belt in the process. Canelo would then go on to vacate his 175-pound belt to storm through the 168 division and becoming the reigning four belt champion.

This time around, Canelo was the betting favourite to secure his second victory at 175 against the underdog Bivol. However, the undefeated Russian pugilist proved to be off a different breed than his compatriot Kovalev and outperformed as the betting underdog. If you’re an Indian boxing fan and are interested in exploring the world of online gambling, find best online casino in India here.

Throughout the fight, Bivol showed impeccable control of distance as well as an impregnable defense which Canelo was unable to break through. The Mexican looked like only a shell of his destructive 168-pound avatar, with Bivol’s combos giving Canelo swellings and blotches on his face. After overpowering Canelo for 12 rounds, Bivol won the favour of all three judges, with a victory via unanimous decision (115-113, 115-113, 115-111).

Moments after the fight, Canelo showed interest in activating his rematch clause, to which Bivol also nodded. Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has also revealed that he will be targeting the rematch on 17th September.

However, seeing the drastic contrasts in Canelo’s most two recent performances- against Caleb Plant back in November for the undisputed title at 168, and against Bivol last weekend for the WBA belt at 175, there are mixed opinions on whether Canelo will actually be able to turn things around in the rematch, especially seeing how Bivol proved to be a much, much tougher competition that everyone expected him to be.

Many fans believe Canelo to be at his best at 168, and the undisputed champion’s recent performance at the division solidifies that claim. Interestingly, Bivol himself has likened the idea of going down one division for quite some time and is now willing to do the same for the Canelo rematch, but only if the latter’s undisputed titles are at stake.

If Bivol vs Canelo 2 takes place at super middleweight, it will definitely increase Canelo’s chances of avenging his loss. While it would be the divisional debut for Bivol, the Russian would still be much more of a challenge than any of Canelo’s recent opponents at 168.

Now, the coming days will reveal if Canelo will be eager to take the rematch and at what weight he will fight Bivol once again. While 175 may seem too much for Canelo at the moment, Bivol going down to 168 surely increases Canelo’s chances of securing a victory in the rematch.
