Reigning undisputed super middleweight champion of the world Canelo Alvarez is not ruling out a fight against unified heavyweight champ Oleksandr Usyk, a fight that would be a true physical demand for his professional career.

Canelo Alvarez wants his 201-pound fight against Oleksandr Usyk

During a recent interview with bet365, Canelo, currently undergoing recovery from his surgery, gave a glimpse of the path he will choose to continue his career. The Mexican wants big challenges, and he’ll be looking for them soon- which may be a fight against Usyk.

While neither Canelo is expected to jump up to heavyweight, nor Usyk is expected to come down to 168, the latter has been formerly undisputed at cruiserweight- a division where Canelo is likely to fight in the future.

“Everyone would like to play me, and that’s not weird at all,” said Canelo, “I like Usyk , because he’s a great fighter who was already at cruiserweight, and he chose to move up to heavyweight.”

“I am a fighter who really likes challenges. I like to feel in danger, obviously, when I’m in the ring. That gives me a lot of adrenaline, and so everything will continue,” he added.

However, it is not the first time that Canelo has expressed his wish to face the Ukrainian. Back in May, prior to the Dmitry Bivol clash, Canelo said that he liked the idea of a fight against Usyk at 201-pound catchweight.

“I like it,” Canelo told ESPN back then, “Why not? I’ll fight everyone. I don’t f***ing care.”

On the other hand, Usyk has also hinted at his stance on the potential bout and has given a clear indication that Canelo is the only boxer who would make him return to cruiserweight. The duel will take time to organize, but it can happen.

“Next year, the fight for the undisputed world title will be our priority. We want Tyson Fury,” Usyk ‘s trainer Sergy Lapin said, “It is our main goal, and we want it. If the fight against Canelo happens, Oleksandr could go down to the cruiserweight division.”
