Undisputed super middleweight champion of the world Canelo Alvarez has once again tied up with Premier Boxing Champions, to fight on the promotion’s September PPV card- which could feature Jermall Charlo, the undefeated WBC middleweight champion, as his opponent.
Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermall Charlo might headline PBC PPV in September
The announcement was made by the Mexican on his Instagram this Thursday. While the opponent isn’t confirmed, it is very likely that Canelo will be locking horns against “Future of Boxing” on the PBC PPV.
“Done Deal. See You Soon Sep. 2023” the caption in Canelo’s Instagram story read, added with some sparring clips.
All that being said, the official announcement of Canelo’s opponent is expected to happen by the end of this month- this Friday at the earliest, and along with his trainer Eddy Reynoso, Canelo reportedly met with Al Haymon to negotiate about facing Charlo.
Canelo is fresh off of a unanimous decision win over John Ryder on Saturday, 6th May at the Estadio Akron in, Guadalajara. The win marked the Mexican’s second in a row since losing to WBA Light Heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol last year.
The last time Charlo fought was on 19th June 2021, defeating Juan Macias Montiel, and has gone almost 23 months without fighting. Last month, he said that he wants to make his return against Demetrius Andrade, the former two division world champion. However, its expected that making that return against Canelo would be the option he will go for.
