Canelo Alvarez believes that David Benavidez might appear as a monster to other fighter, but he won’t be the same when facing off against him, because its a different challenge to face Canelo than any other fighter.

“He looks like a monster with different fighters, but in the ring, it’s not the same to have me as other fighters,” Canelo told the media this Wednesday during a public training session. “We already saw it with Golovkin, it was the same thing they said, that he was the knockout, the monster. And in the end, what did he do?”

The undisputed super middleweight champion assures that public opinion, fans and everyone always put a fighter against whom Canelo must fight because that fighter represents great danger. The same as he is now with David Benavidez, and as he was at the time with Gennady Golovkin.

“They always put one on me, it was Golovkin, it was Trout, it was Lara,” Canelo went on, “They always put one on me, telling me that he was not going to fight him because he was a monster. Yes, he is a monster, with whom? It is not the same to have me than to have other fighters”.

Canelo claimed that he saw the fight between David Benavidez and Caleb Plant and the fight turned out just as he anticipated it.

“(Benavidez) did very well, as he should have done,” he said. “That’s what we believed, that Plant was going to win the first rounds and then he was going to come out on top.”

Canelo Alvarez hints positively at a possible fight with Benavidez

When Canelo Alvarez was asked if he is beginning to like the possibility of fighting David Benavidez more after what he saw against Plant, the Mexican answers yes, even though in the past, Canelo didn’t respond the same.

“Yes, I like challenges, but I have a goal this year which is to fight Bivol,” added Canelo. “And Bivol is a tough fight. And Benavidez is a good fighter, he’s a good fighter, but I’ve been in the ring in tough fights.”
