Undisputed lightweight world champion Devin Haney, and former unified 135-pound Titleist have Vasyl Lomachenko already accepted offers to star in a fight, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has claimed.
During an interview with talkSPORT, Arum took it upon himself to confirm that the long-awaited duel between Lomachenko and Haney is over, with the fight featuring Haney’s WBC, WBA (Super), WBO and IBF belts at stake.
“That fight’s going to happen,” said Arum. “I don’t have the date yet, but I had lunch [on Monday] with Bill Haney, Devin’s father, and then Devin joined us. They’re great people and we discussed the fight and they’re all set a ready.”
“So, we’ll have a site and date set shortly, but both Haney and Lomachenko have committed to the fight.”
Lomachenko and Haney have joked about the fight in a recent meeting full of respect and with a touch of friendship. Soon after Lomachenko’s victory over Jamaine Ortiz back in October, he was joined by Haney in the ring.
With Haney having the bigger stature, Lomachenko joked, “This is a lightweight? Actually, he looks like a heavyweight.”
To which, Haney replied: “I’ll show you in the ring, you’ll see.”
