Anthony Davis will continue to play for the defending NBA Champions after signing a five-year contract worth $190 million. He becomes only the fourth player to be tied down in a deal worth over a $100 million dollars after Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
The deal will start with the maximum yearly salary of $32.7 million per season and also includes an early termination clause ahead of the 2024-25 season. With Davis turning 31 by then, he has effectively cemented his future with the franchise till that point.
The five-year extension means that Davis has a contract one-year longer than LeBron James. The franchise could only offer the four-time champion a deal spanning four years due to his age, the league forbids franchises to offer long term contracts to players exceeding the age of 38, which LeBron would be in four years.

The Los Angeles Lakers have re-signed forward Anthony Davis, it was announced today by Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.
“In the Orlando bubble, Anthony Davis proved he is one of the game’s most complete and dominant two-way players,” Pelinka said. “Now, Lakers fans get to watch AD continue to grow and lead our franchise for years to come. This is truly a blessed moment for Lakers Nation.” Los Angeles Lakers’ statement read

In a huge plus for the champions, Lebron James is expected to finish his career with the Lakers knowing that Davis would be alongside. Both of the athletes are represented by Rich Paul and Klutch Sports.
However, with two huge back-to-back deals for their premium players, the financials and the salary cap dynamics might have taken a slight kick which obstructs the way for obtaining a potentially huge free agent next summer like Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Los Angeles Lakers will contest in four preseason games against the likes of Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns ahead of the 2020-21 season start from December 22.
