Alex Albon had been having a strong race, running in the points for much of it. He pulled off some bold overtakes, including a spectacular double move between Esteban Ocon and Daniel Ricciardo. However, his fortunes took a turn for the worse when he became the first car on the scene as Carlos Sainz spun across the track. With nowhere to go, Alex Albon collided with the out-of-control Ferrari, sending him into the barriers. Safety Car periods were triggered due to this incident.
“I was kind of expecting him to stop, but the way he kind of rolled around, let’s say when I made my initial move to go left, I thought ‘okay that’s fine I’ve got a position,’ and then as I saw him coming and rolling around me, I thought ‘okay he’s going to clip my rear right’ and I was a bit of a passenger. Frustrating as for sure points were available today,” he added.

“I was enjoying it out there, those kind of conditions, mixed conditions, there’s a lot to play for and I was having a lot of fun,” Albon said afterwards.
“Then two laps in a row, two drivers went off in the same corner. The first one I lost a position I had to avoid the crash, and the lap after Carlos [Sainz] obviously had his spin.
Alex Albon’s Unfortunate Crash
The Canadian Grand Prix witnessed a dramatic turn of events for Williams driver Alex Albon. What initially promised to be a strong race for points ended in disappointment due to an unavoidable collision with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz.
Earlier in the race, Albon showcased his skill with a brilliant double overtake. He executed a daring move, passing Daniel Ricciardo on the straight and then Esteban Ocon at the chicane. Within seconds, Alex Albon climbed two positions to P9.
However, Alex Albon’s fortunes took a sharp downturn later in the race. As Carlos Sainz spun across the track, Albon found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. With no escape route, he collided with the out-of-control Ferrari, sending both cars into the barriers. Safety Car periods were triggered due to this incident.
“A disappointing end to our race today,” Albon expressed in a press release from the Williams team. “Those mixed conditions provided excitement, but unfortunately, I became a passenger in the Sainz incident. Points were within reach, but fate had other plans.”
