Aaron Judge attributes his crucial game-tying HR to an unexpected source

Aaron Judge had his Carlton Fisk moment during ALDS Game 3.

The New York Yankees slugger Judge provided one of the moments of the postseason thus far with a clutch game-tying home run on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays. During the fourth inning at Yankee Stadium in New York, N.Y., Judge was up to bat with two runners on and the Blue Jays leading 6-3.

Toronto brought in reliever Louis Varland to face Judge, but it didn’t matter as Judge ripped a rocket down the left field line on an 0-2 pitch. After a dramatic pause, the ball smacked off the foul pole in left for a three-run homer to tie the game at 6-6.

The Yankees went on to win the game 9-6 to successfully extend their season (with Toronto now taking a 2-1 series lead into Game 4 on Wednesday). After the contest, Judge spoke out about the home run and gave credit to a very unlikely source — a ghost.

“I never had one like that right at the foul pole,” Judge told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. “Thankfully the ghost kinda took that one over and kept it fair for us. That was a nice one.”

It goes without saying that many greats performed at Yankee Stadium before Judge. He therefore has more than enough choices for whom to give credit there.

Judge, the current AL MVP, is frequently made fun of for allegedly being a bad playoff player, and a hideous mistake in Game 2 of the ALDS surely didn’t help his case. Judge, however, is now hitting the plate with more than enough force; on Tuesday, he went 3/4 with four RBIs, bringing his total to seven hits in the first three games of the series against the Blue Jays.
