Ben Simmons’s Injury

Simmons suffered from a pinched nerve in his lower back, which significantly impacted his availability during the 2023-24 season. He played in just 15 games, far from the contribution expected from a three-time NBA All-Star. The frustration of being sidelined due to injury was evident, but Simmons remained determined to return to the court.
The Surgical Solution
To address the pinched nerve, Simmons underwent a microscopic partial discectomy. This procedure involved removing a small fragment of the herniated disc in his lower back. Dr. Timur Urakov performed the surgery at UHealth Jackson Memorial Medical Center, with consultation from Dr. Barth Green. The Nets are optimistic that this surgery will finally provide the relief Simmons needs to complete a full season.
Recovery and Training Camp
The good news? Simmons is expected to make a full recovery in time for training camp next season. The Nets, who acquired him from the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2021-22 season, are counting on his return to bolster their roster. Despite setbacks, Simmons remains a competitor, eager to play the game at a high level.
