We gotta protest: Jorge Masvidal speaks up against the communist regime in Cuba

When he is inside the Octagon, Jorge Masvidal is fighting for UFC titles and setting records. But when outside of it, the Cuban-origin American is raising awareness about his ancestral place, and its communist regime.

Masvidal was born to a Cuban father and a Peruvian mother in Miami. According to the UFC welterweight star, his father got out of Cuba as a teenager to escape the communist dictatorship there.

Cuba, officially known as the Republic of Cuba, is one of the few countries in the present day that still follow the Marxist–Leninist ideology. The country has been a ‘one state-one party’ system since 1959, and since then, a huge population of Cuban nationals have escaped and immigrated to other countries, mostly in the US where they are known as Cuban Americans, including ‘Gamebred’s old man.

Renowned for his stance against the Cuban political system and its ruling communist party, Masvidal took to Twitter in a latest endeavour to raise awareness to the netizens across the world to back the nation of Cuba in the struggle to free itself from the communist regime.

The 1 minute and 18 second clip, which bears the hashtag ‘#SOSCuba‘, saw Masvidal touching on his distaste of the communist ideology, dictatorship and oppression, something that he believes needs to come to an end in his ancestral land.

“Hello, everybody, and anybody listening,” Masvidal opened up the clip, “My name is Jorge Masvidal and I’m just trying to keep up with my fans or anybody that would know me. Use my platforms to do what I feel is correct and I feel everybody should be doing which is fighting against oppression, dictatorships, communism, and anything of that nature.”

“My father escaped Cuba when he was 14 years old and I’ve only heard the horror stories since I could process thoughts of how shitty this communist regime – killing machine is. So I just want to shed some light on Cuba, big SOS signal for them. This oppression has been going on for 61 years,” the UFC ‘BMF’ Champion, who is currently the no 7 welterweight in the company, added.

It’s not just because of the pandemic, not just because they ran out of medicine, they’ve been out of medicine, they’ve been out of resources and food. Because of the corrupt government, the extreme corruption over there where only a few at the top eat and everybody else has to suffer — those days have to come to an end.

“So I think it’s time for the whole world to rally behind Cuba, let’s go, spread the messages online, we gotta protest, we gotta get together, get attention,” Gamebred went on, “Maybe the local media channels in America won’t cover this, or in other parts of the world.

But I think it’s up to us to put the word out there. It’s the people against the corrupt governments. Let’s defeat these evil communist motherf******, man. God bless everybody watching and thank you,” Masvidal concluded.

Masvidal is currently on a two fight losing streak in the UFC, having lost back to back against the reigning UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, first at UFC 251 in July last year, as well as at UFC 261 back in April.
