Vikings: the Future or the Present in mind for the 2024 NFL Draft?

It’s going to be an important and special one for general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and head coach Kevin O’Connell. The Vikings might look to secure their quarterback slot for the upcoming future with USC’s Caleb Williams and North Carolina’s Drake Maye catching the eyes of all the franchise. But, their popularity also means they can get signed earlier. Thus, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr, and Oregon’s Bo Nix are favorable contenders for the quarterback spot.

Whether the Vikings choose to trade the quarterback of the future or if they choose to extend veteran Kirk Cousins and recruit a top defensive player.

The Vikings have 9 picks in the draft. The most important one is the 11th pick in the first round. They have the 42nd pick in the 2nd round. Apart from this, the Vikings have two 4th round picks, one received from Detroit for the T.J. Hockensen deal. Also, they have two 5th-round picks from the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland. The two 6th-round picks are from Las Vegas through New England due to the Vederian Lowe deal in 2023 and from Jacksonville for the trade of guard Ezra Cleveland. The 7th-round pick is a conditional from Atlanta through Arizona. The exact order of the picks from the 3rd round will be announced at a later date.

Though teams are supposed to have at least one pick per round, the Vikings have none in the 3rd round. They sent this pick to Detroit in the T.J. Hockensen deal. They traded their 5th round pick to Philadelphia and 6th round pick to Cardinals to acquire Jalen Reagor and Joshua Dobbs, respectively. The 7th-round pick was traded with Las Vegas for quarterback Nick Mullens.

The 2023 draft went well for the Vikings with the recruitment of Jordan Addison. However, the 2022 draft, which marked the start of the Kwesi and Kevin partnership, didn’t go according to plans. The 2024 NFL draft is the talk of the fans and the event which is supposed to happen on 25-27th April 2024 will surely be a critical one for them for the rebuild after this season.
