We are yet to have a confirmed opponent for Tyson Fury’s next fight, but his co-promoter Frank Warren has suggested something huge and claims its going to come as a surprise to many people.
Tyson Fury’s next fight will be announced soon says Warren
The most anticipated fight for the WBC heavyweight champ was an undisputed clash with unified WBO, IBF, WBA, IBO titleholder Oleksandr Usyk and the two parties came close to an agreement for April, but fell apart on financial terms.
Skill Challenge Promotions, the Middle East based company which has been the frontrunner to host Fury vs. Usyk are trying to host the fight in Saudi Arabia and are also targeting a date in December. However, there hasn’t been any concrete lead or report on that matter.
“The Gypsy King” was also recently engaged with some verbal back and forth with UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones but those fight talks also calmed down after Jones called to have the fight in the cage instead of the squared circle.
In the meantime, Queensberry Promotions chief Frank Warren has stepped forward to suggest something “game changing” is coming for Fury and it will be a massive surprise.
“They’ll be an announcement soon, it will be quite interesting, everybody is going to be quite surprised. It’s going to be a game changer,” said Warren during a recent interview with The Daily Mail.
In another interview with talkSPORT, Warren also believes that Fury vs. Usyk may not be possible until 2024.
“I’m not going to get into that all we are focusing on his next fight at the moment and depending on what date we announce it he may not be available,” the English promoter acknowledged. “There may not be a December anyway because Amer [Abdallah], who is the Skills Challenge Head of Boxing, he said they were looking to put whatever they are looking to put together in the first quarter of 2024 anyway.” [H/T BJPenn.com]
