UFC Summer Recap

July saw UFC traverse the Atlantic to be welcomed in London, England at the O2 Arena in the nation’s capital. A good time was had by all as British fans got to see their own fighters go up against some of the very best in the world.

After that, Nevada and California hosted Fight Nights before the big UFC 279 event at the Vivant Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah. Top of the bill was the welterweight championship bout between Kamaru Osman and Leon Edwards. The two had met previously, with Usman coming out on top. The reigning champion was victorious once again – knocking out Edwards with a head kick in the fifth round.

Now the UFC makes its first ever visit to Paris, France at the beginning of September. The main event is scheduled to be French national Ciryl Gane taking on Tai Tuivasa in a heavyweight contest. Hopefully this will be the first of many UFC events held in the city of love.

UFC 279

The action returns to the home of UFC at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada a week later though. UFC 279 promises to be another exhilarating night of mixed martial arts action with five fights on the main card.

The main event is scheduled to be a welterweight bout between Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz. Chimaev formerly fought in the Brave Combat Federation and is now gearing up for his fifth event under the UFC banner.

He is currently unbeaten in 11 fights in total and has picked up Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night awards in his last two appearances. He now faces an opponent who is vastly experienced but has been going through a patchy spell of form in his last few outings.

Diaz most recently lost to Leon Edwards at UFC 263 in June of last year and could really do with another victory against Chimaev to climb the rankings once again.

Other interesting fights on the main card include the welterweight contest between Li Jingliang and Tony Ferguson – and a catchweight bout featuring Kevin Holland and Daniel Rodriguez.

UFC Fight Nights

The UFC Apex center in Enterprise, Nevada then plays host to two Fight Nights before the next big event.

Top of the bill on September 17 is a bantamweight fight between Corey Sandhagen and Song Yadong. Two weeks later the same arena will see a women’s strawweight clash between Mackenzie Dern and Yan Xiaonan as the main event for the adoring MMA fans.

UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi

The exciting news in October is that UFC makes another flight overseas, pitching up in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

On a fight card currently scheduled to feature 11 bouts, Charles Oliveira will fight Islam Makhachev for the vacant lightweight championship title as the main draw. Oliveira now boasts 33 wins from his 42 career fights and has not lost since December 2017.

The Brazilian missed his weight at UFC 274 though and was stripped of the title. Now the highly impressive Makhachev will look to take the championship and continue his own 10-fight winning streak. This promises to be a real brawl and will surely excite the Abu Dhabi crowd.
