“This is not a joke. It’s a life and death situation.” Trey Smith recalls the horrific experience during The Super Bowl Parade shooting

Chiefs Offensive lineman Trey Smith recently opened up on the horrific experience he went through on Wednesday at the Super Bowl Parade shooting. Trey Smith talked about the horrific incident  he and his teammates went through the following day on “Good Morning America”

“I just remember the security guards ushering us through the doors quickly, saying, ‘Come on, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up,’” Smith said. “They said, ‘This is not a joke. It’s a life and death situation.’”

Smith also recalled saving a kid and hiding in a closet with more than 20 people, all fearing for their lives.

“So right before I run in there, there’s like a little kid in front of me, so I just grab him, yank him,” Smith said. “So you’re hopping in here with me buddy. I don’t know how many people there were in the closet, maybe 20. Plus one of my teammates, my long snapper James Winchester is very instrumental in helping keep people calm. We end up getting the green light to be able to get out there we end up walking to the buses.”

He recalled that the bus was filled with frightened spectators who were desperately trying to cling to that one hope of survival.

‘hey buddy you’re the champion. No one’s gonna hurt you.” Trey Smith saves a child under unreal circumstances.

“This little boy was with his father, he was just a little hysterical. He’s just panicked. Ya know he’s scared. He doesn’t know what’s going on,” said Smith. “I had the WWE belt on me the entire parade and I was thinking man, what can I do to help him out? So I just handed him the belt and said ‘hey buddy you’re the champion. No one’s gonna hurt you.”

Trey Smith added “We got your back. No one’s gonna hurt you. We got your back. He was looking out the window and seeing people reacting away they’re trying to get out of that situation. So I’m like, ‘here you go buddy this is yours. Again no one’s gonna hurt you when you’re with us. We’re gonna keep you protected, you’re gonna be a-okay, you’re gonna be alright.”

There were 23 victims of this deadly incident, many of which are children,22 were injured, and a 43-year-old woman named Elizabeth Galvin died on the spot. This incident frustrated and saddened Trey Smith heavily and left a deep scar on him and any other soul present on those chaotic streets of Kansas.
