WBO welterweight champion of the world Terence Crawford marked his fifth successful title defense with a late stoppage victory over former two time welterweight champion Shawn Porter this Saturday at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Paradise, Nevada as “Bud” Crawford extended his unbeaten professional record to 38 wins and 29 knockouts, as well as his seventh straight knockout win.

Returning to the squared circle after a gap of one year, Crawford’s WBO title was on the line for the fifth time against Porter, who has held the WBC and IBF titles in the past. As the fight started to reach its late rounds and a result by decision looking to become the outcome, it was Crawford who dropped Porter twice in the 10th round and winning the match via TKO.

The fight started off with Crawford on his usual early backfoot with taking in the offense from Porter before landing a brutal left hook on the contender. The second and third round saw a more even approach from both, but Crawford was still a step ahead with his combos despite Porter returning with a vicious uppercut, ‘Showtime’ had already ended up with a cut over his right eye.

Porter turned his offence up a notch in the following rounds but it was Crawford making more connections with calculated counters, but in the sixth round, an accidental headbutt from Porter gave the champion a cut. Porter mixed up his approach with combination strikes and in the eight, landed three back to back right hands on Crawford that started the titleholder.

The challenger slowed his approach in the ninth round as Crawford aimed for clean body shots on Porter but the fight still remained very even to this point, until it rolled into the 10th round, when Porter went down after a vicious left from Crawford, who dropped the challenger once again with blazing combination strikes, with Porter’s corner calling in for a stoppage, awarding Crawford a win by TKO.
