The once undisputed powerhouse of Spain and Europe, last season went trophy less for the 26 times La Liga and 5 times UEFA Champions League winners. Moreover, the face smacking 8-2 defeat against Bayern in the UCL, and now the possibility of Lionel Messi wanting to exit Camp Nou, a catastrophe has come down on the Catalans.

Nevertheless, there is one Barca superstar who is observing every nook and cranny of the current scenario at the club, and he is none other than Frenkie de Jong, the Dutch midfielder who speaks his mind about the present situation in the Barcelona dressing room.

A bit of chaos: Frenkie de Jong on Barcelona’s present situation

One of the biggest signing of last season, former Ajax icon Frenkie de Jong’s first year with Barcelona went dry as the Spanish giants failed to clinch any silverware. Even though he is currently on international duty, the Netherlands play maker says he is observing every happening in the club.

“It is a bit of chaos, there is a lot going on”, de Jong spoke to Dutch broadcasting organisation NOS.nl regarding the turmoil.

The biggest concern coming out of the Blaugrana dressing room is in no doubt the potential departure of Lionel Messi. After 16 decorated years with the club, the Argentine skipper, for the first time, is speculated to be heading out of Barcelona.

However, de Jong couldn’t give much input on Messi’s future at Camp Nou, as he hasn’t contacted the player or the club, but acknowledged that the captain’s departure will be a massive detriment for Barca.

“I did not talk to him (Messi) about this myself,” the 23 year old continued, “Not even the club. So I honestly don’t know about it.”

“But if Messi really leaves, it will be a huge blow to the team and the club. But when I come back after these international matches, I will see what happened at the club.”

Currently out on international duty for the soon to begin UEFA Nations League, de Jong further spoke about the arrival of former Netherlands coach and compatriot Ronald Koeman, who hailed de Jong as “the future of Barcelona.”

“I only spoke to Koeman on the phone briefly, but when I get to Barcelona, I’m sure I’ll talk to him about it,” de Jong added.

Since his arrival last year, de Jong has made 29 appearances for Barca, and scored twice.
