The Boston Celtics have secured another key player for their championship core. Sam Hauser, originally an undrafted free agent from the University of Virginia, has agreed to a four-year, $45 million contract extension. His impressive performance as a reserve player has made him an integral part of the 2024 NBA champions.

In a tweet by Noa Dalzell (@NoaDalzellNBA), Walsh highlighted Hauser’s journey as a source of inspiration for young players striving to reach the NBA.

“Sam Hauser signing his extension is inspiring for Maine Celtics players,” Walsh said. “Now his name is going to be in the banners everywhere in Maine, and everyone’s going to see – here’s a guy that’s climbed that ladder.”

Hauser’s path to the NBA wasn’t a typical one. After a successful college career at Marquette University, he went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft. However, his hard work and dedication landed him a two-way contract with the Boston Celtics, allowing him to split time between the NBA and the Maine Celtics.

In the 2021-22 season, Sam Hauser impressed in the G League, averaging 19.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. He showcased his shooting prowess, connecting on 44.1% of his three-point attempts. His strong performances earned him a call-up to the Boston Celtics, where he saw limited action but continued to develop his skills.

Hauser’s journey from undrafted rookie to a lucrative extension is inspiring. As Jordan Walsh aptly put it, “Now his name is going to be in the banners everywhere in Maine, and everyone’s going to see — here’s a guy that’s climbed that ladder” . The Celtics recognize his potential and are betting on his future growth.

Steady Shooting and Defense

In his three seasons with the Celtics, Sam Hauser has been a reliable shooter, maintaining over 42% accuracy from beyond the arc. His defensive contributions off the bench have also been crucial. As the team prioritizes retaining its own players, Hauser’s extension reflects their commitment to building a sustainable roster.
