Devin Haney confirms negotiation talks with Ryan Garcia’s team

In the wake of his reign as the undisputed lightweight world champion, Haney decided to jump up to 140 and, earlier this month, locked horns with Regis Prograis for the latter’s WBC belt.

The fight, which took place on December 9 at the Chase Center in San Francisco, ended with a stellar performance from Haney, who dominated in his divisional debut to dethrone Prograis with a unanimous decision win.

While there was no lack of appraisal shedding on Haney, there was one who was impressed by the two division champ’s feat and that is none other than Ryan Garcia, and earlier today, the former WBC interim champion of the 135-pound division took to X.com to drop a bombshell.

“KingRy” wrote that his team has reached out to Haney to have the two share the squared circle.

“I’ve advised my team to contact team Haney to discuss and make the fight happen between Devin and I #GarciaHaney,” wrote Garcia.

“The Dream” was quick to react to Garcia’s claim, and had a three word response to confirm the statement.

“These are facts..” Haney replied, retweeting Garcia’s original post.

Haney vs. Garcia in 2024

After suffering his maiden professional defeat against Gervonta “Tank” Davis back in April, Garcia bounced back with an 8th-round knockout win over Oscar Duarte on December 2 in Texas.

For his part, Haney has been on the wishlist of several boxers, including the former 140-pound undisputed champ Josh Taylor, who recently challenged Haney for a catchweight contest.

While negotiations are ongoing between the parties, as confirmed by both Garcia and Haney, there’s yet to be any confirming statement on whether Haney vs. Garcia will eventually materialize.

However, as both boxers’ promoters, Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions for Garcia and Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing for Haney, are linked with DAZN, chances for the fight actually happening are higher, and if Haney’s team thumbs up the deal from Garcia’s side, it is expected to become a highly anticipated event for 2024.
