Former WBC interim lightweight world champion Ryan Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) is less than two months away from his much awaited comeback to the squared circle, against former IBO lightweight champion Emmanuel Tagoe in April. However, even before the fight, Garcia is reigniting the flames against Gervonta Davis, and has also hinted at a future move up to light welterweight.

Ryan Garcia has been one of the most exciting lightweight fighters of this generation, but the undefeated 23-year-old has been inactive for more than a year. Since defeating Luke Campbell on 2nd January 2021, Ryan Garcia has been unable to return to the ring twice last year, first pulling out against Javier Fortuna due to mental health issues in April, followed by a hand injury which cancelled the JoJo Diaz fight in November.

Now, while the fight against Tagoe is confirmed for 9th April at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, Garcia hints that it could be his last fight at lightweight and he may move up to 140 up next.

If Kambosos doesn’t want to fight I’ll just move up: Ryan Garcia

Speaking to ESNews regarding the Rolando Romero vs Gervonta Davis fight, which was recently called off due to sexual allegations against Romero, but was ordered once again, Garcia not only stated that he has his money on “Rolly” to KO Davis, but also reignited his grudge with “Tank”, by saying that he still wants to face Davis and believes he possesses the skills to defeat the three division champion.

“I definitely want to give the fans that fight [vs Davis]”, said Garcia, “I look forward to this year, hopefully. I don’t want to get people too excited. This has been a long-awaited match-up. But I think in due time, it’s going to happen … Everybody can think whatever they want, that I’m going to lose or whatever, but I know I have the skills to beat him.”

“King Ryan”, who recently parted ways with longtime trainer Eddy Reynoso and teamed up with Hall Of Famer Joe Goossen, also added that he has the George Kambosos fight in mind as well, but if the unified lightweight champion shows reluctance then he will move up to 140.

“I’m just getting started. This is nothing yet compared to when I start getting the big fights and start fighting the big names. I don’t know how big this can get. I’ll probably be at 140 very soon, especially if [George] Kambosos doesn’t really want to fight or any of these guys. I’ll just move up. We’re going to anyways near that weight,” added Garcia.
