Odell Beckham Jr., a wide receiver, is back on the market following his release by the Baltimore Ravens last week. The NFL community was shocked to hear this news because many had anticipated that Beckham would play a larger part in Baltimore’s offense. Now that free agency is well underway, the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets have emerged as two intriguing destinations for the gifted wide receiver.

Ravens Exit

Odell Beckham Jr., 31, joined forces with NFL MVP Lamar Jackson in Baltimore, signing a one-year, $15 million deal last offseason. The Ravens had high hopes for their revamped receiving corps, but the partnership didn’t yield the expected results. After a 13-4 season that led the AFC North, Beckham bid farewell to the Ravens, seeking a fresh start elsewhere—his fifth career move.

After Baltimore Bust, Chiefs and Jets Vie for Odell Beckham Jr.’s Talent

In 2023, Beckham Jr. committed to a one-year contract with the Ravens in an attempt to revive his career with quarterback Lamar Jackson. But the fit never really worked out. Beckham’s playing time was limited by injuries, and his skill set was not fully utilized by the run-heavy Ravens attack. Even with his moments of genius, Beckham’s performance was not up to par.

Star wide receivers are nothing new to the Kansas City Chiefs. Tyreek Hill’s departure in 2022 left the Chief’s offense without a real deep threat. Even while players like JuJu Smith-Schuster performed well, Kansas City would undoubtedly profit from acquiring yet another potent weapon.

There is no denying Beckham Jr.’s talent. His ability to win contested routes and make spectacular catches would be the ideal contrast to Patrick Mahomes’ pinpoint deliveries. With Smith and Schuster as a strong receiving tandem, Beckham’s potential might be realized by the Chiefs’ explosive attack.

Odell Beckham Jr. is a target for the New York Jets as well. Zach Wilson had a strong rookie campaign as the quarterback, and the Jets are constantly looking for weapons to improve their inexperienced attack. The veteran presence and big-play potential of Beckham may greatly improve the Jets passing attack.

For Beckham Jr., there’s an additional degree of familiarity. In 2023, he came close to signing with the Jets but ultimately decided to sign with Baltimore. For Beckham, a reunion with Wilson—who last year was a strong supporter of the wide receiver—might be an alluring offer.
