Contract Details
The deal, first reported by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, includes a sixth-year vesting option that could escalate the total value to $90 million. Rooker will earn $30 million over the first three seasons, covering what would have been his arbitration years. This extension ensures that Rooker will be a key part of the A’s lineup through at least the 2029 season
Brent Rooker’s Journey
Rooker, who turned 30 in November, has had a remarkable rise since joining the Athletics in 2023. After struggling to find his footing with three different teams early in his career, he has become one of the most successful waiver claims in recent memory. In his first season with the A’s, Rooker hit .293 with 39 home runs and 112 RBIs, earning a Silver Slugger Award.
Impact on the Team
The Athletics have been aggressive in their offseason moves, signing Rooker to a significant contract extension following their acquisition of pitcher Luis Severino and third baseman Gio Urshela. Rooker’s consistent offensive production and clubhouse presence make him a cornerstone for the team as they prepare for their move to a new ballpark in Las Vegas.
