The Infamous Video Leak
Back in 2016, a video recorded by Russell surfaced, in which Young admitted to cheating on his then-fiancée, musician Iggy Azalea. The video went viral, causing a significant rift between the two players and leading to Azalea ending their engagement.
Nick Young’s Response
During an episode of the “Knuckleheads Podcast,” Young explained that he never confronted Russell because the Lakers’ management, including then-GM Mitch Kupchak, warned him against it. They told him that if he did anything to harm Russell, he would face financial penalties and potential suspension. When Young arrived at the practice facility, there was heavy security presence, preventing any confrontation.
Russell’s Apology and Fallout
Russell publicly apologized for recording and leaking the video, expressing regret for his actions. Despite his apology, the incident severely damaged his relationship with teammates and the organization. Russell was eventually traded to the Brooklyn Nets, where he had a productive stint before moving on to other teams.
