The Incident
The incident occurred in the third quarter of the game when Nurkic and Doncic were jostling for position under the basket. Nurkic’s elbow struck Doncic in the face, causing immediate concern among players and fans. Referees reviewed the play and determined that it was an intentional act, resulting in Nurkic being assessed a Flagrant 2 foul and ejected from the game.
Jusuf Nurkic’s Response
Following the game, Nurkic expressed regret for the incident, stating that he did not intend to harm Doncic. “I didn’t mean to hit him in the face. It was a heat-of-the-moment reaction,” Nurkic said. “I apologize to Luka and the Mavericks organization. It won’t happen again.”
Impact on the Suns
Nurkic’s suspension will be a significant blow to the Suns, who rely heavily on his presence in the paint. As a key defensive anchor and rebounder, Nurkic’s absence will force the Suns to adjust their lineup and find ways to fill the void left by their starting center.
