The Formula 1 world is abuzz with rumors of a seismic shift: Max Verstappen, the reigning World Champion, could be on the verge of joining Mercedes. The Brackley-based team has reportedly tabled an eye-watering offer to entice Verstappen away from Red Bull Racing.

Verstappen’s future at Red Bull has been a topic of speculation since the start of the 2024 season. The Dutchman has been linked to Mercedes as a potential replacement for Lewis Hamilton, who is set to join Ferrari alongside Charles Leclerc in 2025. While Verstappen has achieved almost everything on the track, off-track drama within the Red Bull team has cast uncertainty over his long-term commitment.

As per  “FormulaPasion.it”, Toto Wolff said, “We’re waiting to see what Max [Verstappen] will do. Naturally we’re also keeping an eye on the other drivers. Carlos Sainz was very fast again. We are in observation mode. The decision is up to Max and it won’t be a matter of days, but of weeks or months.”

Red Bull’s off-track saga has been well-documented. Team principal Christian Horner faced investigations over inappropriate behavior, and motorsport advisor Helmut Marko was also drawn into the mix as a potential source of leaks. Although the news cycle has quieted down, the underlying tensions remain unresolved. Verstappen’s team is closely monitoring the situation, especially as design guru Adrian Newey decides to leave the team.

Mercedes, led by team boss Toto Wolff, is keen on securing Max Verstappen’s services. The 26-year-old would not only bolster their on-track performance but also serve as a brand ambassador for the company if he chooses to end his career with the Silver Arrows. The offer also extends to Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s mastermind. Verstappen has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave the team if Marko departs, and Mercedes is reportedly keen on luring both Max Verstappen and Marko away from Red Bull.

But there is no official announcement on the contracts only time will tell what will happen next.
