According to reports, Mattia Binotto, the former team principal of Ferrari, has been seen in discussions with Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll. Binotto, a seasoned figure in the Formula 1 world, joined Ferrari back in 1995 and remained with the team until the end of 2022. His departure from Ferrari opened up new possibilities, and now it seems that a fresh challenge might be on the horizon for him.

The Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Binotto was spotted in the F1 paddock at Imola during Ferrari’s home race. He apparently headed for Aston Martin’s hospitality area to converse with ambitious team owner Lawrence Stroll. The report suggests that Stroll has a “concrete interest” in appointing Binotto as their team principal.

As of now, Mike Krack serves as the Team Principal of the Aston Martin Formula One Team. Krack, a Luxembourgish motorsports engineer, took over the role after the departure of Otmar Szafnauer. His leadership has been instrumental in guiding the team’s progress and development.

Interestingly, you mentioned Mattia Binotto’s work on Ferrari’s wind tunnel back in 2020. While at Ferrari, Binotto played a crucial role in implementing improvements to their wind tunnel and simulator correlation. Although the advantage gained from additional wind tunnel time is not massive, it’s still significant. Ferrari’s lower position in the Constructors’ Championship in 2020 allowed them more time in the wind tunnel for development. However, Binotto himself has acknowledged that this advantage provides less than a tenth of a second per lap. Still, every bit counts in the competitive world of Formula 1.
