The reigning AEW TBS Champion Kris Statlander recently talked about her match against Jade Cargill at last week’s AEW Rampage.
Statlander had won the TBS Championship after defeating Jade Cargill at AEW Double or Nothing 2023. Cargill returned on the September 9 episode of AEW Collision and challenged for the title on the September 15 episode of AEW Rampage. Kris Statlander successfully defended her title and following the match they hugged. This marked Cargill’s last match in AEW.
Speaking on Under The Ring, Statlander discussed her rematch against Cargill before it aired on TV.
“I’m glad the match finally happened,” Kris Statlander said. “It’s something that I had been wanting to happen for a while. There’s been a lot of discourse about me not being the true champion, that it wasn’t a true open challenge that she put out, or that Mark put out. So I feel like there’s a lot to prove, and there’s a lot that we are going to prove in this match. It’s not just about me, it’s about her also.
“It’s a very special match. I think it’s something that we both wanted, a lot of people have wanted. Going into it, we both have something to prove. I think that it just helps raise the stakes a little bit more.”
Jade Cargill is a former AEW TBS Champion and she is indeed WWE bound. She is expected to begin training the Performer Center in Orlando, FL as early as this week. Cargill has been one of the most dominant female performers in AEW’s Women’s Division. Her 508-day reign as the TBS Champion remains to be a massive feat in the promotion.
