In a trilogy that was a decade in making, Juan Francisco Estrada has now gone 2-1 over Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez, this time via majority decision to claim the vacant WBC super flyweight championship and The Ring magazine title this Saturday night at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
The two first met back in 2012, when Gonzalez was victorious via unanimous decision. The rematch took place in March 2021, with Estrada avenging his defeat from nine years prior. However, the split decision win for Estrada was controversial.
This time, ‘El Gallo’ let no eyebrows to be raised as he came out as the sharper puncher, outclassing his longtime rival as the fight went the distance again, this time, with a majority decision verdict for Estrada (114-114, 116-112 and 115-113).
