Johnny Depp, the famed American actor, producer, and musician has arranged to direct ‘Modigliani’, his first directorial work in 25 years, which he will also co-produce with Al Pacino and Barry Navidi.

The feature film will see Depp’s return as a director after a period of two and a half decades. Back in 1997, he directed and starred alongside Marlon Brando in The Brave, which is his directorial debut feature. The film made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival. The 59-year-old, in the meantime, directed a number of music videos for his ex-wife and singer Vanessa Paradis

As it has been revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, Depp is ready to get behind the camera for Modigliani, based on the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, and besides, it would be co-produced by Al Pacino and Barry Navidi as well. It is the fourth collaboration of Navidi and Pacino, having worked previously on The Merchant Of Venice (2004), Wilde Salomé (2011), and Salomé (2013). In 1997, Depp and Pacino also starred each other in contrast in the crime flick Donnie Brasco.

The movie, based on Dennis McIntyre’s play and later modified for the screen by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski, imparts a tale of the painter and sculptor in Paris in 1916, depicting an unstable and eventful 48 hours of Modigliani’s life which would become a turning point in his life, eventually hardening his position as an artistic legend.

Last week, Deadline disclosed the first image of Johnny Depp as King Louis XV in French director Maïwenn’s historical love story Jeanne du Barry, which is his first role in three years. The film’s shooting commenced on 26th July and is expected to run for 11 weeks, and will be shot in Versailles and other chateaux in the Paris region.
