John Elway issued a statement on Wednesday regarding the death of his agent and friend, Jeff Sperbeck.
Sperbeck died early Wednesday morning at the age of 62, days after being injured in a golf cart accident. The accident occurred on Saturday when Sperbeck fell off a golf cart being driven by Elway while the men and their spouses were having a fun weekend in the Palm Spring area for the Stagecoach country music festival. Sperbeck hit his head and suffered traumatic injuries that led to his death. He was taken to a medical facility afterwards and ended up on life support.

“I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck,” Elway wrote in a statement issued on Wednesday. “There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me. My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Jeff’s wife, Cori; his children Carly, Sam and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him. Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others.”
Sperbeck had over 100 clients as a manager. He also was a business partner with Elway for their 7Cellars winery.

In 1990, Sperbeck started working for Elway. Sperbeck co-founded a sports marketing company that Octagon purchased in 2001, according to the Associated Press. Before launching another firm, Sperbeck oversaw Octagon’s football branch for the following ten years.
