Celebrity boxing icon Jake Paul has revealed his support for Ryan Garcia (23–0, 19KOs) in a potential super fight against Gervonta Davis (27-0, 25 KOs), but alleges Floyd Mayweather will be paying off the judges.
I’m rooting for Ryan in that fight: Jake Paul
A fight between Garcia and Davis has been in conversations for quite some time and both boxers themselves are willing to take their bad blood into the squared circle. Talks escalated following Garcia’s recent win over Javier Fortuna, with negotiations for his next outing against ‘Tank’ are speculated to be underway.
In the meantime, Jake Paul has voiced his side in the fight, and the 5-0 pro boxer says while the fight will be a close contest, he will be rooting for the former WBC interim lightweight champion in Garcia.
“I’m rooting for Ryan in that fight,” Paul revealed to reporters recently, “It’s going to be a tough fight, I think it’s a 50/50 fight.”
‘The Problem Child’, however, believes that Davis, who’s under Mayweather Promotions, will have the favor from the judges no matter what as he suspects Floyd to have already paid off the judges, referring to the three-division champ’s fight against Mario Barrios last year.
“Gervonta hasn’t shown really the ability to win a lot of rounds,” Paul went on, “Even with Barrios, he was losing a lot of those rounds on my scorecards. Obviously, he’s in the Mayweather protection program so a lot of the judges are probably paid off to score for Gervonta but Barrios was winning those rounds in my opinion before he got dropped.”
“If Ryan can just not get hit with those big punches, then I think he can pull it off,” Paul added. [H/T BoxingScene.com]
In a separate interview with FightHype, Paul took another shot at Davis after he had accused Devin Haney, the undisputed lightweight champ to have copied Davis’ dressing style.
“I mean it’s just corny like Gervonta was just basically online saying that Devin dresses like him and s***,” Paul asserted, “It’s like all people wear the same diamond, the same jewellery, the same watches, the same cars. It’s guys like Gervonta with God complex that think they invented fashion or they invented jewellery. So, it was just funny to see. Yeah, Devin’s my boy, so I gotta clown some of his opponents.” [H/T Marca]
