Helmut Marko expressed his concern about the car’s bumpiness during the practice session. According to him, the car jumps excessively, affecting stability and overall performance.
However, he reassured that the situation might appear worse than it actually is. Another critical point raised by Marko was the lack of grip on the front axle in specific corners. Monaco’s tight and twisty layout demands precise handling, and any deficiency in grip can be detrimental.

Helmut Marko said after FP1 “The car is too bumpy at the moment. But it looks worse than it is. The car jumps too much and there is a lack of grip on the front axle in certain corners.” “For us, only the Leclerc time is alarming. The others [at the front] drove on the soft tyres.”
Among all the drivers, Charles Leclerc’s lap time caught Marko’s attention. He deemed it alarming, indicating that Leclerc’s pace was noteworthy. Notably, Leclerc’s time was set while using the soft tires, which adds an interesting dimension to the analysis.
Helmut Marko’s Perspective On Sergio Perez’s Contract
In the 2023 season, Perez faced challenges, including driving errors and inconsistent race weekends. However, 2024 has been a different story. With three second-place finishes, a third-place, and a fifth-place in the first five races, Perez has shown remarkable consistency.
His improved qualifying performance and patient driving alongside teammate Max Verstappen have elevated his standing within the team. Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, recently spoke about Perez’s contract situation.
“The talks are ongoing and Checo [Sergio Perez] is still our first option,” the 81-year-old told Kleine Zeitung. We want to clarify that before the summer break, even though we put absolutely no pressure on ourselves otherwise.”
Marko emphasized that there’s “nothing negative” to say about Perez. Despite the difficulties in 2023, Perez has risen to the challenge and performed admirably. The team’s priority is to secure Perez’s services for the long term, considering his current form.
