Dmitry Bivol is ready to share the ring with Jermell Charlo, but only on one condition- Charlo must emerge victorious against Canelo Alvarez in their upcoming clash on 30th September.
Following the back-to-back wins over Canelo and Zurdo Ramírez last year, Bivol is yet to have his next fight confirmed. The undefeated WBA light heavyweight champion, who handed Canelo his second career defeat, was willing for a rematch at 168, but there was a rejection from the part of the Mexican.
Dmitry Bivol says he will move down to 168 if the offer is good
Now, as Jermell Charlo will be making an attempt at Canelo’s undisputed super middleweight belts, Bivol says he is once again ready to move down in weight class and fight Charlo, provided that he’s victorious against Canelo and becomes undisputed at 168.
“Yeah, if [Jermell] Charlo wins [against Canelo Alvarez], I would like to fight him,” Bivol told Fight Hub TV. “It’s not like, ‘Oh, I want to fight against someone at 168.’ No, I prefer to fight in my weight class [light heavyweight].”
Although Bivol says he will move down to 168 if the offer is good, the Russian insists that he would like to remain in the light heavyweight division.
“If someone wants and we have a good offer to move down for [super middleweight] belt, I will do it, but I prefer to fight in my weight class,” he added.
Speaking about how the Canelo vs. Charlo fight ensues, Bivol stated that he believes that Canelo will be going forward to attempt a stoppage, whereas Charlo is going to maintain distance.
“I see that he [Canelo] will move forward and try to finish him with one or two punches. Charlo will try to keep him on the distance and try to move,” opined Bivol. [H/T Boxing News 24]
