Dirt Track Race Devolves Into Mayhem As Bodies Fly Amid Fracas

A dirt track race at Carolina Speedway quickly devolved into mayhem over the weekend when a pair of pit crews stood up for their drivers during a WILD physical altercation that sent multiple bodies flying. It is one of the craziest racing videos in recent history, if not of all time. The whole thing went down on Friday night.

Jacob Funderburke, who may or may not be a realtor by day, and Christian Patterson, who may or may not be a police officer, were at the center of the chaos. They were battling back and forth throughout the entire (very muddy) race. The former drove the No. 19 car, while the latter drove the No. 43 car.

It got messy late on turn one and could have been really ugly! Funderburke swung wide toward the wall, bumping Patterson into the barrier and putting him up on two wheels. The No. 19 car nearly rolled as a result of the (probably accidental, but very avoidable) contact. Funderburke finished 11th, and Patterson finished behind him.

The Explosive Altercation on Dirt Track of Carolina

Tension was high. Patterson was furious with Funderburke’s move, and so was his crew. Both of their crews started yelling at each other after the race finished. But it didn’t stop there. It escalated to full-blown bedlam when a member of Patterson’s crew literally jumped through the window of Funderburke’s car as they pulled back into the pits. And then, with the guy still in his car, Funderburke hit the gas!!! Both sides were eventually separated, but the member of Patterson’s crew was arrested.

While the entire video is super entertaining, the racing announcer trying to tell Funderburke that he needs to slow down in the pits is the best part. As if Funderburke was going to hear the on-air announcer while being attacked through his passenger window and slow down. You can’t write it any better than that!
